The Skate Uke
The Skate Uke was built from used /ridden skateboards. Some boards were ridden by myself, some donated by my good buddy George at Iris Skateboards, Some donated by Mr. Mark Widmann of NHS. This Ukulele has a Tenor scale length. The inside of the top and back are sealed with carbon fiber to provide stiffness and increased tone. The sides are curly Claro Walnut. The fret board is Gaboon Ebony with mother of pearl inlays. The bridge is in the shape of my favorite childhood skateboarders deck Natas Kapus. The headstock has a recycled skateboard circle that represents the skateboard wheel—complete with used axle nut, bolt and used bearing—all used by myself. The Tuners are Gotoh geared ukulele tuners with a gear ratio of 4:1 . I gifted this wonderful instrument to retired skateboarder Adrian Demain. Adrain was a part of the original Powell Peralta Bones Brigade. Each Sunday he performs a free one hour set on his instagram page called the Lockdown Luau. Here is the link to a specail one hour show that he peformed the week I gifted the instrument to him. It was quite a sense of accomplishment to say the least. If you want to see this instrument in action, click the links attached on any upcoming sunday at 3pm. Adrian has proven to be extremely gifted, humble and kind. Here is the link to his Youtube Channel. Please show him support and check him out!
