These are my Specialty Items
This is a Northwestern Big Leaf Maple Burl Ukulele with live edge sound hole. Scale length tenor. The sides and neck are made of Curly Claro Walnut (Which was originally cut to be gunstock). I love to take something that was destined for destruction and turn it into a vehicle for joy. The fret board is made from Gaboon Ebony with turquoise fret markers wrapped in brass. The tuners are Schertler Tuning Keys with a 18:1 gear ratio for extra fine tuning. The headstock has a lovely piece of round turquoise with flecks of what looks like gold to compliment the brass that encompasses the other turquoise inlays. What an amazingly satisfying build.
This box is for the sophisticated smoker. A true joy to roll with. This custom smoke box is crafted with curly claro walnut, angel step quilted maple, a bit of purple heart and a rolling tray made of curly mango. The tamping stick is made from gaboon ebony with purple heart tips with turquoise inlay. There are gaboon ebony splines and some abalone inlay pieces. The top is adorned with live edge yellow box burl slices. The hinges are Brusso brass hinges. Comes complete with a hidden magnetic compartment. There is a video here on my instagram feed @sawdustimagery if you’d like a tour. This box will last lifetimes if cared for and used properly.
The Skate Uke was built from used /ridden skateboards. Some boards were ridden by myself, some donated by my good buddy George at Iris Skateboards, Some donated by Mr. Mark Widmann of NHS. This Ukulele has a Tenor scale length. The inside of the top and back are sealed with carbon fiber to provide stiffness and increased tone. The sides are curly Claro Walnut. The fret board is Gaboon Ebony with mother of pearl inlays. The bridge is in the shape of my favorite childhood skateboarders deck Natas Kapus. The headstock has a recycled skateboard circle that represents the skateboard wheel—complete with used axle nut, bolt and used bearing—all used by myself. The Tuners are Gotoh geared ukulele tuners with a gear ratio of 4:1 . I gifted this wonderful instrument to retired skateboarder Adrian Demain. Adrain was a part of the original Powell Peralta Bones Brigade. Each Sunday he performs a free one hour set on his instagram page called the Lockdown Luau. Here is the link to a specail one hour show that he peformed the week I gifted the instrument to him. It was quite a sense of accomplishment to say the least. If you want to see this instrument in action, click the links attached on any upcoming sunday at 3pm. Adrian has proven to be extremely gifted, humble and kind. Here is the link to his Youtube Channel. Please show him support and check him out!
This image is one that I took at the Prana Mar Yoga Retreat in Santa Teresa Costa Rica. The frame is handmade with Purple Heart that’s been electrified with 15000 volts of electricity to create the Lichtenberg figure that you see on its face. This image is special to me because My wife and I met at the resort and then returned to get married there… And, if memory serves me… this was taken on the morning of our wedding day.
This Round Body Tenor Ukulele is something special. Made with master grade Curly Claro Walnut and Fiddleback maple. The fretboard has a 10” radius and is made of Birdseye Maple with gold Mother of Pearl fret markers. The tuners are Gotoh UPT Geared Tuning Pegs with a 4:1 ratio. The inlay on the headstock is ancient Mastodon Ivory with a hand Scrimshawed California Poppy. The inlay on the bridge is Mastodon Ivory with a hand scrimshawed honeybee. The rosette that surrounds the sound hole was designed by Petros Guitars. The body is slim and this instrument feels solid and plays amazing. I gifted this one to my Step Mom Mary.
This Jewelry box was crafted from a Curly Claro Walnut frame with Angelstep Quilted Bigleaf Maple and this Redwood Lace Burl Veneer. This Redwood Burl has been vacuum bagged with Entropy Bio Laminating Epoxy. The drawer handles are Gaboon Ebony. The side doors contain hand turned Gaboon Ebony posts with inlaid Mother of Pearl for hanging necklaces. The top looks like a topographical map or treasure map complete with imaginary point breaks. There are compartments for every type of jewelry I could think of. Drawer number 3 has a secret compartment only accessible by a one of a kind rare earth magnet key. This box is held together with Brusso Brass Hinges. I didn’t realize my own potential until I created this box. You never know until you try!
